Gala Big Band + Early Bird Band - St Mary's Church, Sherburn Village. Friday 14th July,

The Gala Big Band (pictured) was formed in September 2014. With musicians as young as 11 and as old as 83, the band is made up a diverse range of Durham-based amateur and semi-pro musicians. They've given performances at the Gala Theatre, Durham, at the Witham in Barnard Castle, at Ushaw College alongside star saxophonist Vasilis Xenopoulos, at Durham Town Hall and at the annual Great North Big Band Festival. Led by Paul Edis, the band repertoire includes classic big band arrangements from Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Buddy Rich and includes newer material specially commissioned for the band.
The Early Bird Band is a North East bebop band led by Paul Edis and featuring up and coming musicians. Influences include Rollins, Davis, Coltrane, Hancock, Blakey and Brown.
