More Artists Announced For SummerTyne Americana Festival 2016!

Organisers of the SummerTyne Americana Festival 2016 are delighted to announce that new artists have been added to the line-up including freewheeling Americana icon Howe Gelb from seminal band Giant Sand who will perform with his special guest Gemma Ray.  Support artists have also been confirmed for two of the headline shows: Talented country singer-songwriter Callaghan supports Ward Thomas & Striking Matches on Friday 22nd July, and sassy country queen Jess Clemmons and her band The Bandits open for Imelda May on Saturday 23rd July.  Other support artists just confirmed include Scottish singer-songwriter Dean Owens who guests with Gretchen Peters and Hymn for Her support The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band.  
Taking place in and around Sage Gateshead from 22nd to 24th July, SummerTyne Americana Festival is a feel-good celebration of American roots music and brings together some of the finest and most exciting performers from both sides of the Atlantic. The weekend long party is jam packed full of the best country, folk, bluegrass, rockabilly, blues, soul and roots music.
The line-up also includes highly influential singer-songwriter Mary Chapin Carpenter, country duos Kelly Willis & Bruce Robison plus Brennen Leigh & Noel Mckay, new folk pioneers The Mike & Ruthy Band plus Gill Landry, bluegrass from Ron Block and a simmering blues stew from Lucky Peterson. There’s even a not to be missed bluegrass reworking of rock opera Tommy from The HillBenders.
The SummerTyne River Cruises return for 2016, with live music from Gill Landry and Miss Mary & The Mr Rights on Saturday 23rd July and Dean Owens and Chester And The Fog on Sunday 24th July. 
Of course the incredibly popular Jumpin’ Hot Outdoor Stage will be back too with 3 days of free music to enjoy on the banks of the Tyne.  Entertaining the crowds outside will be Eve Selis & Band, Mary Jean Lewis & Her Lowmen, Urban Pioneers, Amanda Rheaume Trio, Little Victor, Hymn for Her, 10 String Symphony, Danielle Howle, Peter Bruntnell Band, Yola Carter & Band, Luke & Mel, Shipcote & Friends, Tony Bengtsson, Chloe Chadwick, Hokum Hotshots, Sons of Bido Lito, Kari MacLeod & The Fugitives and Teresa Watson’s Blues Band.
With street food, a film programme, exhibitions, merchandise from our SummerTyne traders, a chance to join our SummerTyne Soul Choir and many more acts still to be announced, we defy you not to find something to blow you away, get your feet tapping and put a huge smile on your face.  It’s SummerTyne time!
