Iceni @ Cumberland Arms. August 3

Lindsay Hannon (vcl/bs gtr); Elizabeth Corney (vcl/keys); Caroline Roach (vcl/dms).
(Review by Lance).
The sun was shining but the wind had arrived via Siberia which meant that sitting supping wasn't as serene a setting as it usually is at the Cumberland Arms. Nonetheless, Iceni* generated enough heat to ensure that our timbers didn't shiver too much.
The 3 girl band led by  Lindsay, with her metaphorical Rock Helmet atop her tunic of divers colours let us know they meant business with a driving set that was hotter than the Jumbo Chilli Sausages w. Mustard and Onions on sale at the adjoining stall (£5). Three girls? the sound was that of a thousand as they conquered The Cumberland and the surrounding hills who submitted in sweet surrender.
Lindsay Hannon is one of best jazz singers around - she also charts as a bass playing rock chick! On keys, Elizabeth Corney - apart from laying down the harmonic framework - added her own distinctive vocals to the mix as did Caroline Roach. A surname to live up to for a drummer maybe but she "maxed" her technique to enable the tribe to take on all comers.
A great gig.
Baghdaddies were to follow but it had been a long day so I exited stage left just as the sounds of some Balkan Boogieing filled the air.
Lance.
*Iceni: The person who was thought worthy to be their leader and who directed the conduct of the entire war, was Buduica, a Briton woman of the royal family and possessed of greater intelligence than often belongs to women.... In stature she was very tall, in appearance most terrifying, in the glance of her eye most fierce, and her voice was harsh; a great mass of the tawniest hair fell to her hips; around her neck was a large golden necklace; and she wore a tunic of divers colours over which a thick mantle was fastened with a brooch. This was her invariable attire - Wikipedia..
